How to install Electric Faucet during house construction?

2025-04-27

Installing an electric faucet (also called an automatic sensor faucet) during house construction is a great idea — it's easier to set up properly when the walls and plumbing are still open! Here’s a simple step-by-step guide to help you understand the process:

1. Plan Ahead

Choose the right model: Some electric faucets are battery-powered, others are hardwired into the house’s electrical system.

Locate power source: Make sure there’s electrical wiring nearby if it's a hardwired type, or plan space for easy battery access.

2. Prepare Plumbing

Water lines: Standard hot and cold water supply lines should already be installed.

Mounting hole: Most faucets need a standard sink hole (about 1–1.5 inches in diameter). Confirm the size from the faucet manual.

3. Install Electrical Supply

For hardwired models:

Install a GFCI-protected outlet under the sink (this is a safety code requirement).

Route wires neatly and safely according to local electrical codes.

For battery models:

Install the battery box securely under the sink, away from moisture.

4. Mount the Faucet

Insert the faucet into the sink or counter hole.

Secure it underneath using the provided rubber gasket, metal washer, and mounting nut.

5. Connect the Water Supply

Attach the hot and cold supply lines to the shutoff valves.

Use Teflon tape on threads if needed to prevent leaks.

6. Connect the Control Box

Some electric faucets have a control box that mixes water and controls the sensor.

Mount the control box under the sink.

Connect the water lines to it as per the manual.

Connect the power (either battery pack or AC wire).

7. Test the System

Turn on the water supply.

Power up the faucet (insert batteries or connect to outlet).

Test for:

Leaks under the sink.

Sensor activation working correctly.

Temperature adjustment if available.

Bonus Tips:

Always read the manufacturer's manual — different brands (like Moen, Kohler, Delta) have slightly different setups.

Seal around the faucet base with silicone if needed to prevent water from leaking under the sink.

Label wiring neatly for future maintenance.

Consider installing a shut-off valve specific to the faucet for easy servicing later.
